Recently, the Public Communication and Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment unveiled the 2024 Eco-Schools Green Flag Cases, with seven schools in Changzhou achieving the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag award. Two additional schools successfully passed the re-evaluation process, and the Changzhou Ecology and Environment Bureau was honored with the Outstanding Organizer award.

With these latest accolades, a total of 21 schools in Changzhou have now earned the Eco-Schools Green Flag certification, solidifying the city’s position as a national leader in the program.

Eco-Schools is an international initiative by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), launched in 1994 to engage young people in environmental projects. The program begins in the classroom and extends to the community, empowering students through action-based learning. Participants gain a sense of achievement by contributing to their schools’ environmental management policies, ultimately steering their institutions toward certification and the prestigious Green Flag award.

The seven newly certified schools in Changzhou are: Xinqiao Second Experimental Primary School, Changzhou Wuxing Experimental Primary School, Liyang Tangqiao Primary School, Changzhou Qinglong Experimental Primary School, Changzhou Zhongtian Experimental School, Chengzhang Primary School, and Yaoguan Central Primary School.

In recent years, Changzhou has embraced Xi Jinping Thought on Eco-civilization as a guiding principle, integrating ecological education into school curricula. This approach fosters environmentally conscious behaviors among students and promotes low-carbon practices on campuses. Schools have tapped into local ecological resources to develop regionally distinctive environmental education programs, creating a diverse and innovative model of eco-education. These efforts not only enrich moral education frameworks but also contribute to building a greener, more sustainable Changzhou.
