Changzhou Port has experienced a significant 82% year-on-year increase in equipment exports in 2024, with total shipments reaching 705,000 cubic meters.
The new Yangtze River wharf, a key player in these exports, has been instrumental in enhancing the port’s role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The exports included a wide range of high-value equipment, such as construction machinery, transport vehicles, steel structures, wind turbines, electrode equipment, cables, and transformers. These goods were shipped to numerous international markets, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Germany, Morocco, Turkey, and Egypt. Notably, the port exported approximately 1,300 units of construction machinery and vehicles, valued at nearly 500 million yuan. Key clients included major Chinese manufacturers such as Sany Heavy Industry, FAW Group, Sinotruk, and XCMG.
In a bid to further streamline operations, Changzhou Customs introduced a new "direct loading upon arrival" policy aimed at improving the efficiency of the port’s clearance process. Under this system, businesses can pre-schedule arrival times, ensuring a smoother flow of goods. The "pre-declaration, direct loading, and immediate release" process reduces both the time and costs associated with traditional unloading procedures. This initiative has successfully cut shipment time by about five days and addressed issues related to handling oversized cargo, which previously required multiple hoists.
To ensure the safe loading of sensitive equipment, particularly construction machinery and vehicles, the wharf has also upgraded its handling procedures and equipment. Given the delicate nature of these shipments—where even minor scratches or deformations are unacceptable—the wharf has tailored specific lifting tools and custom frames to handle excavators, loaders, and dump trucks, each of which requires unique handling techniques.
