On December 20, Fudan University’s Center for Strategic Study of Health Development and the Coordinated Innovation Center for Health Risk Alarm and Governance released the 2023 evaluation results on urban public health governance capacity in the Yangtze River Delta region. Changzhou ranked third, making it one of four cities in Jiangsu province to place in the top ten.

The evaluation system, developed by the Coordinated Innovation Center, comprises 83 indicators across eight dimensions, including the supporting role of the social environment, organizational systems, and resource allocation. A total of 40 cities from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces participated in this comprehensive assessment of public health governance capacity.

Within the top ten rankings, Suzhou, Changzhou, Nanjing, and Wuxi claimed the second, third, fifth, and sixth positions, respectively. First introduced in 2019, this evaluation has shown a consistent improvement in public health governance across the three provinces. Over the past five years, the average rating for the 40 participating cities has increased by 8.3%, reflecting steady advancements in public health management.
